my cup of tea
In the Philippines, I grew up with the merienda. It is therefore no surprise that I fully embraced the English tradition of afternoon tea.
Having been introduced to The Savoy and their divine stilton sandwiches, my girlfriends and I have since formed a little cake club, and with much joy we tested and tasted the offerings of The Metropolitan.
It was amusing to note that some ladies were late, particularly those who were actually in the area soaking the sun in the nearby green park. Also typical, that the tomboy organiser who instructed all to wear dresses turned up in shorts... ahem.
The delicacies were beautifully presented and did not disappoint, but it was the eating that concerned us most. Get. In. My. Belly.
The winner was still the humble scone. Oh and we still love gorgeous bread. No more of this wheat-free lark! Our critique/suggestions include shot glasses as more suitable foodware, some savouries (where was the cheese?!), and to not write 'optional service charge' if it's expected to be paid. The Savoy remains our firm favourite.
Finally, the spirit of the day is best captured in the photo of my er, glam wag friend, who could not resist the pleasure of some silliness.

Wow! I love tea! For my eighteenth bday (a million years ago :p), I opted to have a tea party instead of a debut. Is The Savoy a restaurant? I'll put that in my list of places to go when I go on my much-wanted Euro trip (whenever that'll be. Haha).

Afternoon tea... Ah. Conjures up memories of afternoon tea time at Kirsty's or Janet's place, waaaaaay back when. Although we never settled for anything too refined, there were always the scones, the Earl Grey blend, and of course: SAUSAGE ROLLS. Hahaha. (Thanks, Mrs. Kay.)
Hmmm. I suddenly missed high school.

Isel: The Savoy is a hotel. We'll go when you visit me in London.
Marts: I miss ensaymada and pandesal. Labas tayo pag dating ko ng Maynila.

I'm so ashamed that there were a couple of cakes left at the end. What a bunch of amateurs - we clearly need to get in some more practice.
